Floods are the most common natural disaster in the United States. And, given the amount of snow New England received this winter, the arrival of spring could herald some serious flooding in our area. Although most people understand the need for flood insurance in high-risk or coastal areas, it’s important to note that as many as 20-25 percent of all floods occur in low and medium-risk zones, and flood damage is not covered by your homeowners insurance.
If you are concerned that your home may be at risk for flooding damage, call an agent at Avery Insurance for information on how best to protect your most important asset. But be advised that, under most circumstances, there is a 30-day waiting period from the time the flood insurance application is received by the company before coverage is in place. Timing is important.
