Mention "flood" and most of us envision whole towns under water, or huge waves pounding seacoast cottages. In fact, however, flooding can result from any period of heavy rain or snow melt and it can happen in any part of the country.

The photos may be less dramatic, but the damage caused by flooded basements and sewer backups can be just as serious. And these damages are not covered by your homeowner's insurance policy! The cost of purchasing flood insurance will likely be far cheaper in the long run than one or two monthly installment payments on the loan required to repair the flood damage or re-establish a ruined business.
