Cellular Phones and DrivingCellular phone use has doubled over the last three years, and most of us appreciate the fact that cell phones offer great convenience. But a recent survey by the Insurance Research Council (IRC) showed that 91 percent of all U.S. residents agree that using cellular phones while driving distracts drivers and increases the likelihood of accidents. The difficulty is that we seem unwilling to police ourselves. Of the people surveyed by IRC, 69 percent expressed the view that a total ban on use of a cell phone while driving offered the only solution, but only 35 percent thought people would actually obey the ban. All of us at Avery Insurance understand how important cell phones have become in our daily lives, but we urge all drivers to exercise great caution in talking on the phone while driving. Convenience is never worth the risk of a serious accident.
